trump election was a turning point for board culture
another major turning point was when bans were formalized to be strictly rule based, which ironically gave admins less accountability resulting in them banning with less context and compassion. (oldfags will remember getting targetted for spam warnings from particular mods on less active boards, like the "inane" admin circa 2008) also with the population increasing so much it was harder to police too.
mobile poster majority was when the social contract was broken because getting b& was fast but ban evasion was rampant. mobile posters also exist in an ecosystem that is gameified by corporations to make you stupid and unoriginal.
the biggest symptom of 4chan's death was when it became ubiquitous to see twitter screencap OPs. on every board there would be multiple twitter screencap OPs. regurgitating retarded content like this was basically taboo since the beginning. the only screencaps you would see prior to that was trolling.
it was basically over around covid lockdowns, and i shifted my posting in generic threads to posting mostly to ask questions in subject matter threads for the last ~2-5 years in increasing intensity. it was around this time i developed my own filtering algorithm for popular boards because there was so much trash. i hardly post in 'generic threads' on 4chan anymore and only ask specific questions. i think quality improved following the major hack.
i just prefer irc now because imageposting in irc is possible, so imageboards are not that important anymore

random rant that went long

Interesting how twitter has ruined imageboard culture, first on 4chan and now the 'arty. Not only are twitter screencap threads rampant, these newfags are unable to communicate without the use of ebonics

I can't remember the last time I laughed at a 4chan original™ thread that wasn't from /tv/, twitter screencaps and bait are the only interesting topics because 4sleep is completely devoid of the concept of fun.
